2023 Victorian Cancer Screening Statistical Report

Summary for 2023
The Annual Victorian Cancer Screening Statistical Report describes screening numbers and participation or coverage rates in Victoria for the three population cancer screening programs: the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, BreastScreen Australia Program and the National Cervical Screening Program. For the first time, publicly available in Victoria, the report also includes cervical screening “HPV self-collection uptake” and “Time to assessment” for both bowel cancer and cervical screening programs. Kindly be advised that the “Bowel Participation” report will be made available soon. The data covered in the reports are useful for understanding the current strengths and gaps of cancer screening programs in Victoria. The report presents data by specific age, sex, and location to understand where to focus efforts to support an increase in screening participation.

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) offers a free home bowel screening kit for all eligible people aged 50-74 every 2 years for early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.

BreastScreen Victoria is a population-based screening program that aims to save lives and reduce the impact of breast cancer through early detection. Women aged 50-74 are invited for a free mammogram every 2 years. BreastScreen Victoria operates across a network of fixed and mobile screening clinics and assessment clinics in Victoria.
